Just thought I ought to intro myself. Bought a P22 today. WAP22004 Nickel slide for $279 NIB. Not to bad I think. Regular blue were 245. any who on to my question.

When purchasing the weapon today my main concern was the date code. The one in the case was an AF. From what I was able to gather from various sources online I was looking for the newest possible date which is AH I believe. Mine has AG on the barrel, but the registration card inside clearly says AH. So I don't really know whats up. I'm guessing the AG on the weapon itself is the final word. so hopefully its a post-updated version.

Is there an online "date calculator" or something where by I can type in the SN or something and get specs out?

You are correct that the proof date code on the pistol (AG=06) is definitive, though the one you probably are looking at --visible in the ejection port--is actually on the frame, not the barrel. The barrel is (or should be; I have a long one with the comp that is not) separately date-proofed, seen on the left side of the underlug when the gun is stripped. The slide also is proofed, but without the date code, on the right side, just in front of the front serrations.

But what difference does it make whether it's '06 or '07? What is your specific concern?

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply. before purchasing the P22 I read around a lot and it seems like there were a lot of problems. for example ar15.com has a sticky called "how to make my p22 not suck." I gathered that there was an update or something in 2006 where a lot of the problems with the initial runs of P22s were cleaned up. Plus I always like having the newest possible version. I'm going to take a close look at the slide and frame to see if all the date codes match (they prolly will). When I said the AG was on the barrel, I guess I meant that when looking at the weapon, its clearly imprinted on the side of the breach I guess you'd call it.

Just a suggestion: Figure out first what you really want the gun for, and expect it to do. Then save more money and buy a REAL gun that fits your specifications.

the p22 is just the intro gun for my fiance. My glock 23 isn't really a good fit for her. we range tested a p22 and she loved it, size, ergos etc. so we're gonna start there and work her up the caliber scale. my main issue is just an OCD complex I have with buying the newest and the best. I don't really expect any issues with the firearm.
