Thanks for the community info here.
I inherited my Dad's LP53 this year. This was the gun he taught me to shoot with.

Thanks to this site I now recognize it is an early smooth finish gun. He still had the original box (a little tatty at the corners), sight inserts, cocking knob and the user manual. The previous owner had wrapped the barrel with heavy gauge solder in lieu of a factory barrel weight. The solder was wrapped in electrical tape. The left grip is cracked at the upper front corner but other than that it looks in decent shape. He had the piston seal replaced a number of years ago, it may be due again.

It came with 8 tins of BSA round head pellets, two tins partially consumed. These are the flat tins with orange lids marked with the BSA logo and "PYLARM PELLETS" The pellets are all light grey, almost fuzzy, with oxidation. He bought the gun from a colleague when we were living in Indonesia. I am sure the pellets were acquired on one of our home leaves as there would not have been a local source.

Had it out today for a few trial shots in the back yard, seems to be shooting high and left but I did not dial in the sights and my eyes are not what they used to be. Looking forward to getting it dialed in and shooting more often.

It holds a lot of memories for me. I hope to impart similar memories when my kids start having kids.

I don't currently have a hosting site. Let me see what I can come up with. Not a fan of PhotoBucket but perhaps imgur will work.

Any other suggestions?
