I have a broken blue rear end piece on the recoil assembly that came with my new gun. I'll be calling S&W on Monday for a replacement but in the meantime, I have a couple low power (red) recoil assemblies that were sent to me by mistake. I thought maybe I can swap the springs. How do you get the blue end piece off? One thing for sure I'll be wearing eye protection. Thanks.

By the way, I am a supporting member now! Yipee, I can correct all my typos and faulty syntax.

I am not sure how to take them appart.... however I have seen the blue ones being put together....
very interesting low tech workings on these.... guide rod with spring at room temperature.. blue cap in heated waterbath (at unknown temp.. but it is regulated since it had a thermometer in it) then they get pushed on the rod by hand.... So I would not try to take them appart as something most likely will break with the wrong temp

The correct temperature is 80 degrees Centigrade.

But I believe that's only to facilitate pushing it together for assembly. There is no indication that it is intended to be thereafter pulled apart.

And I ain't gonna try Mike. I just came back from the shop where I bought my P99 yesterday and exchanged the bad recoil spring assembly for a good one. Stuff happens (but why does it always happen to me?).
