I got my Meprolight sights today and got them installed. But, my 3/16" nut driver wont fit down into the hollowed out area surrounding the 'bolt' provided with my Meps. I got it screwed in all the way with my pinky finger, but I want to take it back out, put some loctite on it and tighten it a bit more with something other than my finger.

How did everybody else tighten their front Mep sight?

I used a Craftsman socket that worked well. The socket was really thin, so it was able to get in good, and a really small amount of lock tite. You can also use the Glock front sight removal tool to screw in the front sight.

I don't have one, but the easiest thing is to purchase a Glock front sight tool.

For too many years, I tried to "make do" with a 3/16", 1/4"-drive socket that I modified on my grinding wheel (to make the socket wall thinner).

Not long ago, I was browsing around the tool department (HOME DEPOT, Wal-Mart, ?) and found a generic 3/16" nut driver that was perfect.   It is marked on the plastic handle -- 210 FULLER Canada.  IIRC, I paid less than $3.00 for this item -- it was not part of a kit.  You might be able to find this tool under a different brand name, i.e., STANLEY.

The one I found has been perfect for all front sight applications, so far.

I use the Ed Brown Glock Front Sight Tool attachment (Brownells order number 087-017-001). It fits Magna-Tip screwdrivers. Very slick. Works for Glocks and Walther P99s.

Found a Wiha #265 3/16" Chrom-Van. Made in W. Germany nut driver at Elliot's Hardware in Grapevine that I use on mine. Works great.

I do have to start it with my fingers and a little pencil or something.

Ben, another alternative, if you don't mind doing it, is to use a Dremel or grinding wheel, and take down enough wall on the nut driver, to accommodate the fit.  If it's a 'cheapo' driver, it's no great loss, takes about 3 minutes or less to do, and you'll be able to 'gunsmith' someone else's P99.

BTW, I'd also use some non-permanant LocTite on the screw, to make sure it stays put.
