Holster Question

OK so now I'm looking for a holster, just for walking in the woods. It's probably not going to see a lot of use but I could be wrong.

In looking in the P99 owners manual I noticed that they say you shouldn't store your handgun in a leather holster. I suppose if you're carrying a lot it might not be a problem. And maybe depends on the kind of leather. But I'm not sure stored for how long will it cause a problem. I did have a knife stored in a leather sheath one time that came out with some rust but I probably didn't store it right.

Anyway, looking a Safariland GLS now. They say the liner material won't cause excessive wear. I sure like the look and feel of a leather holster, although I wouldn't want to spend too much more on one. I did see a nice one on Don Humes Leathergoods site for a reasonable price. What do you guys think?

The Safariland 6378 ALS is what I use and it's only going for $37 on Amazon.

Frontline makes a very nice leather paddle holster with a suede lining. High quality holster.

Are you sure that's the right number? The Safariland site says it's incompatible with the P99.

Safarilands order page is kind of funky. It will say at the top right of the page that it is not compatible with this model then it appears in the list below of models it fits.:rolleyes: You also have a choice between the P99, P99AS, P99 AS, P99Q, P99 Q, P99QA, P99 QA.;) I might just call.

It works on the P99, P99C, PPQ M1 and SW99 45 although a bit snug.
I'd imagine the other ones listed fit as well.
The ALS locks on the ejection port so it's a bit more universal.

NP. Even at $37 for right handed is a good price, I paid $10 more a year ago.
The great thing about the Safariland Holsters if you ever do a belt setup and want to use different guns their QLS makes swapping out guns a breeze.

Really? and the reason is that leather would cause the slide to rust ??

I've not heard of this before. Can someone give me some more info?

If this is correct for all Walthers (P99, PPQ) then I assume that leather-lined Kydex holsters would also be a problem?

Thanks.

I think they are talking about long term storage inside leather. I'd imagine the leather would absorb oils on the slide leaving it susceptible to rust.

Ok, I checked the PPQ manual and it says similar: When storing the pistol, do not encase the firearm in anything that will attract or hold moisture, such as leather or heavy cloth.

If we're talking months/years of storage, then I guess I understand. However, I would hope that keeping my pistol in a leather-lined holster in my vehicle or on my nightstand is not a problem. It does get out to exercise every week or so.

Thanks.
Ok, good. Thanks. That's kinda what I thought/hoped. It won't be stored per say but would hate to leave it in a leather holster and forget to check it or oil it and have it get rusty on me.

I'll say. I'm really loving this holster. Makes drawing an absolute breeze. Gonna do some drills with it when I'm at the range later this week.

So, I ended up ordering a Safariland 7379 7TS ALS Clip-On from Optics Planet for about $40 shipped. Should be here tomorrow.:)

Thanks.
