Holosun SCS Design changed ?

So I finally bought a pair of Holosun SCS red dots from OpticsPlanet for my PDP compact and my wife's F Series.

After installing them and putting them side by side, I noticed that one has a slightly better design with cuts that follow the lines on the slide better and completely flush

I contacted OP support and they had no clue but they ordered me a replacement basically, specifically requesting the "improved design" version.

I did not find any information or reference to this new design so I was wondering if someone here can shed some lights on what's going on with Holosun.

FYI, the "improved design" model has a lower serial number in the 13xx range compared to my standard unit that is in the 15xx range. but then I found SCS units with even lower serial numbers (in the 12xx range) on Reddit that didn't have that extra cut .

That's interesting. I have an SCS on a Glock 34 but haven't put one on any of my PDP's yet.

What exactly is the SCS? Does it have the three reticles? Does it need a plate or does it mount directly to the Walther PDP slide.
I am not sure if they mold the geometry of the optic body or machine it in. My guess is the feature was either missed on the blue print by a machinist during the process of machining one of the molds. If machined the geometry could have been missed during the programing or an operator could have forgot load it into the machine for that operation. In manufacturing it is called a Monday/Friday part. Monday= someone was hungover, Friday= someone was only thinking about the upcoming weekend of drunkenness and tail chasing. If your new one comes in without the geometry cutout and is a higher ser# than 15xx they may have omitted the feature as a cost savings.
That is very interesting. I have the one that does NOT have the scalloping near the ejection port like the one shown on the F-series above. My serial number is in the 700 range.
Mine does not have the scalloping either. S/N 0001XX.

At first I though it was a Monday/Friday part also , but then you look at all the marketing material on Holosun website, including their prototype pictures during shotshow and none have the scalloping. Even the picture on the box doesn't have it so as far as I can tell, I'm the only one who has ever got one made like this so far !

I contacted Holosun this morning and it went straight to VM, hopefully i hear something back.

I sure hope they adopt the enhanced design moving forward as it makes it completely snag free

Interesting. I guess my SCS is the 'unimproved' design. Not that I really care all that much, I can live with it.

I picked up my 4” compact model a couple of weeks ago and ordered the SCS the same day from Midway. Serial # is 0016 and it has the scalloped cut. Looks fantastic.

Very interesting, so its safe to say that these "scalloped" units are randomly mixed in and don't fall into a specific serial number range.

It stands for Solar Charging Sight and it has three reticles, 32-MOA circle, 2-MOA dot, and circle and dot combination. I believe it's made to attach directly to slides as they have a couple of different versions (one specifically for the PDP) and won't fit some guns like the Shield 1.0. The PDP model attaches directly to the slide not sure about the Glock model it appears to come with a plate, not sure about the Shield 2.0 or VP9 models either

I think that part of the whole design concept with the SCS is that it is made to match the specific cut of each optics-ready pistol model.

@NaderK

So I actually have a contact at Holosun, he said the bottom optic is the correct cut and is what both models should look like if they were ordered for the PDP, looks like you already have the return process started with the retailer so hopefully they get that sorted out. Didn't have any explanation as to why it WOULDN'T have the cut, just that it definitely SHOULD. So someone screwed up somewhere. I asked if there was like a "first run" sorta deal and that's why the other one may not have it but he was hesitant to answer that.

Yes, that makes sense. I wish they'd do a GC3 TORO version or just some sort of generic version. There's a TON of G3Cs floating around, its what I use as my bedside table and car carry gun. I have some cheaper dot on it now that just doesn't do it for me, I'd love to just slap this on. I imagine they thought the price range for the optic being almost as much as the pistol itself as not a good thing, so I understand where they are coming from. I need to find a good dot sight for my TORO as all of my PPQs are a mix of regular sights/night sights/fiber optic sights but I don't use them that often other than the 4" I had a custom barrel made for by Jarvis and they finally called me to send in my slide on the 5" to get it slide fitted (and the slide itself is already ported). I had two orders placed with CHWPS, one 4" and one 5", to get the optic cut, but the destruction of the rear sight started to weigh on me and I couldn't go through with it. I will say there is a HUGE difference between the stock sites and the Taylor Night Sights, and I don't mean that lightly. HUGE difference.

Hey,
Do you have any updates from OP or HS about your product without the cut in the ejection area ?
Wondering how can I order it and avoid getting one without this cut...
Thank you in advance! 🙏👍💪
Following. Also want the scalloped version
