Hello from the mountains of western North Carolina. I found the site while looking for information on the P4. My father-in-law left one for me when my wife and I moved into his summer home here. I don’t know much about firearms in general, but I know some. Coming from NY, where you need to provide references, first born, (and possibly perform deviant sexual acts) just to obtain a permit, I never got around to it.
I’ve searched online and YouTube about cleaning and such, so I guess my first question would be, is the P4 close enough to a P38 that I can find my way by watching one of those?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Welcome to the forum.

The P4 was the last variation of the P38 and are fairly uncommon. The P4 has a decocking lever instead of the safety/decocking lever used on the P38. But field stripping is identical and they use the same magazines and grips.

Try posting some pictures of it. We'd like to see it.

Sorry for the delay. I'm still here. Attached a couple of photos.

I noticed a small rust spot on the left side. Any suggestions on the right way to clean that up?
