Well, I'd heard such GREAT things about S&W's customer service that I have to say I'm a little disappointed.

I returned my Walther P99 because it has what looks to me, and after a description to others, like it has premature wear in the lockup area - after only 200 rounds. They sent a prepaid shipping label so we were off to a good start.

I included a letter explaining my concerna and asking for a call after it had been inspected, but before any action was taken.

Well, it was returned without the call, and there was just a note saying "inspected and tested - passed." No explanation that the wear pattern was normal (even though nobody else seems to have this wear pattern), no reason why mine is doing this and none of the others seem to.

So, I called to get more detail and they just said they wouldn't worry about it, maybe my barrel to slide fit is tighter than average and needs to break in. They didn't seem to be concerned about my misgivings. I have two Sigs and have had Glocks and other handguns that use the same lockup system and have never seen wear in this area, even after thousands of rounds, let alone 200.

I guess I'll keep shooting it and keep an eye on the wear to see if it continues to worsen.

Thanks for the update, it seems they shoul'dve at least included a note about it. It probably is a tight lockup and wear maybe necessary for the parts to mess together better. Hopefully things will smooth out.

I guess I would trust their judgement. They're supposed to be the experts. If they're right, you may have a better than average P99 in regards to accuracy. Who knows, only time will tell.

Yeah, I'm going to try shoot it a bunch and see if it gets any worse. Knowing my track record, though, I may end up selling it. Since S&W said it was fine I guess I could sell it with a clear conscience.

Smith and Wesson is a great American company that sells great products and they will do what they need to do to keep the customers satisfied with their products. That being said, I have received some good service and some bad service from them. Case in point, I called them the other day inquiring about a new PPK in .32 ACP and the G22 rifle with the grey receiver/stock. The first guy I spoke with replied, "We may never get around to making the .32, they should have never advertised it." On the G22, he said, "Walther doesn't manufacture a grey frame..." Uh, hello, I'm looking at it on GunBroker, they offer a P22 with the grey frame, where'd this guy get his training? I said, "OK thanks!" Click! I called back and got another guy who was much more helpful and told me to expect the .32 this summer and told me that RSR had an exclusive on the grey frame G22. It's all about who you deal with there.
