Obviously, everyone has their own personal preferences, but I really like a lot of gap around the front sight blade and the rear sight notch. Maybe it's just my old eyes; I seem to be able to obtain a more precise sight picture with more gap. This is one reason why I like the Heinie Slant Pro Straight Eight sights so much...the front blade is thinner than the Meprolights or Trijicons. For me, the more gap, the better.
BTW, I have the XS sights (big dot) on my Kahr P40. They're nice for getting off a quick shot at fairly close range.
