It is a Walther TP (Taschen Pistole - pocketpistol is the neglish word for it)
yours was proofed in 1968 and might have been one of the last ones to make it into the country as they could no longer be imported after 1968..... also the more known TPH (Walther and Interarms made those) was a sibbling to the TP

The slide has been refinished at some point in the pistol's life, and it doesn't appear to have been a professional job, either. Your little Walther is a collectible piece but that collector's value is almost destroyed by that refinishing job.

He didn't say why he wanted to know the model number, Mike, and one valid reason for identifying an item is to research resale value.
If you think volunteering this information is cruel, I'm OK with that. Besides, I think we're dealing with an adult here. I'd wager that he can take it.

FWIW... 001001 was the start and the end was 12XXX range on the .25acp
there were only about 3500 in .22lr
