I was out on the range first time today with my P5C. Using federal 115 gr. Frequent jams when chambering first rounds. Am I not seating the last bullet properly in the magazine?
Anyone have any comments or bullet suggestions.

Are you performing the load manually or using the slide stop?

With any autoloader I make it a habit to hold the magazine by the base and slap the back edge of the magazine against the heel of my other hand to seat the cartridges against the rear of the mag after I load the mag. This also tends to cause the cartridges to align themselves parallel to the feed lips. Many mags from many different guns seem to let the top round droop at the tip. Actually learned this from a Nam Vet in reference to AR15 mags but it has now become a habit with everything I shoot.

Manual load.  Slide forward-you insert mag and pull slide back and then let go.
Slide Back - you insert mag and pull slide back and then let go.

Slide stop.  You lock the slide open (or shoot until it locks open), insert mag and depress slide stop to let slide go forward.

Have you tried other brands of ammo?

Thanks for the definitions. I was manual loading. My next thought was to get a few different types of ammo and also using the suggestion of the other gentleman, seating the bullets in the magazine with a hand tap.

Thanks again for your comments. Love the gun but got to get beyond this problem.

Before you set out on a crusade or an ammo shopping spree, do yourself a favor and change that rec spring. Yours has been there in the same position for years and years. P-5s are known for their capability of being fed almost anything and yours doesn't seem to be going into full battery. Rec spring should solve that problem if unfired until recently.

Dumb question, but are you "riding the slide"? Meaning when you pull the slide back, are you letting go and letting the slide close on its own, or are you holding onto the slide while it moves forward?

I believe I'm letting the slide go on ot's own but next time I'm out, I'll pay attention. Where can I get a recoil spring? Based on all the write-ups I purchased it because of reliability. I'm a little frustrated until I can get out again with better results. I appreciare everyone's input.

Hello. New to the board, but saw this thread and I have the same problem with my P5 (serial # 0268XX). I have tried 8 lb. springs, and many JHP styles and weights. Manual loading, using the slide stop and even second round jams after the first round has fired. Some jam more than others, but none have my total confidence. No burrs I can see or feel. I have tried 5 magazines, 3 walther factory and 2 no names I picked up at a gunshow. The non-factory magazines work much better at avoiding the nosing down of the first round or 2. Before I send it to a gunsmith, any other suggestions? OCSEKE, did you solve your issue with first round jamming? I have never had a jam in a Sig or Glock in 1000's of rounds so I don't think it is my hold even though a Star BM also does the nose down thing with JHP, but it's a Star I got for less than $125. The FMJ's function fine and I love the way the P5 shoots and feels. Thanks for any suggestions.
