Hard to beat any of the P22x pistols, they are durable and uber-reliable designs. If I could only have one (or two) pistol, it would be a P22x, specifically the P6/P225 for single stack and the P229 for double stack. (I like compacts for social work, but full-size for the range.)
I have a thing for the single stacks. Aside from the P5, the P6 is one of my very favorites. Never mind that they might be two of the sexiest guns ever made, they are both so easy to become proficient with and I carry them both. Sure there are lots of double stacks that are the same size, same weight or lighter, and twice the capacity...I don’t care. I love my single stacks.
I know it’s all in my head...but “we” are just fine with it.
Had a collection of P6’s. War horses. I sold one to a gent who used reloads and one was overpowered. Got a face full and brought the gun to a gunsmith. Thankfully both he and the old P6 checked out just fine. He wrote to tell me of the incident and was happy to add the old gun to his collection.
I still have one left but it’s my favorite problem child. Not any fault of the gun, to be sure. It was a trainer in a previous life so the breech was redone and a custom fitted new barrel from a P226. Had the frame repainted and put some nice green Hogue grips on it. She’s pretty. As for it being a problem child, every 5th or 6th trigger squeeze results in a fail to fire. Usually a second squeeze fires the round.
As far as these guns go, there’s no comparison with the modern P225A1. Same heft, great balance. Feels great in the hand and a favorite carry of mine. Superior trigger and sites and the G10 grips are flawless. Unless you’re after the historic nature of the P6, I’d rather spend the extra $200 or so and get the modern gun.

It seems the Lang market has been active over the last several months, TAI located/purchased/imported two (#40 & #16), Malteser located/purchased/imported (Malta) one in the #20s range, and I located/purchased/imported #81.
Three (top to bottom, middle column) are shoots. The top (16lb recoil sprung instead of the stock 12lb), middle (Lang, 12lb), and bottom, a "shooter" 30 Luger barrel is with the bottom P5 (ex-DeutscheBank security gun, 12lb).
I shoot the 30 Luger barrel with the bottom frame, 30 Luger cycles great with the 12lb springing.
The middle Lang is all original (#81 matching), so the frame is shot VERY little. I shoot hot 124 gr (1200 FPS) 9mm, so the Lang barrel is almost always swapped onto the top frame with the 16lb springing. Hot ammo out of a 6" barrel P5 with 16lb springing is a beautiful thing. Everyone who shoots it agrees.
The other four are safe queens (unfired outside Ulm), the lower left being a Cat 1062 9mm/7.62mmPara twin barrel.
