I agree that it is not acceptable to me as a DAO. The round trigger guard issue is a non-issue to me.
I would like to see one soon in the TDA.

#### the Walther/Smith will really be giving Glock fits. It is clearly a superior product. At least in the traditional double action form with the decocker.
Getting the Walther contract was the smartest move S&W has made in a long while. Now if S&W could just use Tennifer on their US made slides...

Well.....color me disappointed.

It's just a SW99 with a slightly different slide.  I want a true scaled down P99....something like a P22 that shoots 9mm.

Walther cheesed out on this one.

Thanks for the update though extremist.

Anyone else notice the interesting markings? One picture you can clearly see the frame marked "Frame Made In Germany" and I don't see any of the proof marks on the frame. I think the frame in these pics is just a restamped SW99 compact.
Also...the markings on the sights seem to be the same marks that are on my Meprolight night sights. Maybe this will come with factory night sights? Interesting...

The proof marks are visible under the dust cover.
I can see the "Stag Horn" proof clearly, the other appears to be a "Eagle N", and a "AD" date code.
The barrel and slide both have the "Eagle N" proofs, so we know it's all German.
But my eyes aren't so good.

Man, I was hoping for "more, better, faster".
If they'd come out with a DA/SA trigger, and the Walther square trigger guard, and maybe a Military OD version, I'd jump on it.
But as is....... I'll probably pass.

Ah yes.....I missed those. Thanks. I still think it's just a remarked SW99 frame though. Walther does make those for S&W so this sucker may just be a mockup to test with or something. I really hope they make some changes before production.

Anybody know if it takes the P99 magazines?
Even though I think it'd be better if it had the Walther look, rather than the SW99 look, I might pick one up as a backup gun if it takes my 16 round mags.

This *may* have some correlation, but:

I went to a local gun store today and held he SW99 compact. I had the guy behind the counter check to make sure that the P99/SW99 9mm mags would fit the SW99 compact and that the P99/SW99 .40 mags would fit the .40 SW99 compact......and they did, in both cases.

Also, the compact SW99 seemed to have a much better fit and fiinsh than the full size SW99 pistols which had a (suprisingly) crappy fit and finish. I was almost impressed enough enough to buy one. I had my heart set on a Springfield XD-9 Sub-Compact for my next pistol, but I may have changed my mind this afternoon to a SW99 compact 9mm. Hmmm.......where should my $400 go?

Actually, I had thought of that....and I looked at and held several yesterday. But, I just hate the way the glock feels in my hand. The SW99 compact was actually pretty comfortable to hold....kinda like my P99.:D

I don't think I have the patience to wait for the P99 Compact (unless it has a chance of coming out in the next 2 months or so).

Extremist,
Since you mentioned it I must add a smiliar sentiment. The SW99 compact just doesn't fit like its bigger brother. I have the Glock 26 along with my P99 and for a small grip gun I like the Glock over the SW99 Compact. I've even been tempted to trade the P99 for a G19 just to have the matching pair.
