Usually, if the new sight is a tad too tight, I lay a flat file on my workbench and run the sight up and down the full length of the file a few times till enough metal is removed from the sight base. On any of my guns, I have never had to remove any metal from the sides (dovetail angles) of the sight. My advice: go slowly and check the fit often. In the case of the P99, the rear sight should move fairly freely without too much friction.
