anyone here successfully install the "second generation" night sight from earl's repair service? his front sight mounted fine, but the rear won't even begin to slide into place. tried going at it from both sides, tried oil, tried a small hammer. the groove on the sight actually looks more narrow than my factory plastic sight. the factory sight slips onto my slide easily. is there some trick to this i haven't heard about, or is this part just not gonna go?

Usually, if the new sight is a tad too tight, I lay a flat file on my workbench and run the sight up and down the full length of the file a few times till enough metal is removed from the sight base.  On any of my guns, I have never had to remove any metal from the sides (dovetail angles) of the sight.  My advice: go slowly and check the fit often. In the case of the P99, the rear sight should move fairly freely without too much friction.

i never thought of taking metal off the bottom...i was thinking the grooves in the center of the sight were too narrow. i sent it back to earl, along with my slide. got it back today, fits fine. looks like the grooves were not messed with, so my guess is that he just shaved the bottom down a bit. *smacks self* oh well, it works now.
