I've noticed for a while that when I drop the slide with the slide release the hammer drops too. When I pulled slide back or racked the slide the hammer stayed cocked. So, I thought that I should investigate why this is happening.
After detail stipping my P88 I found that the frame has a crack in the left side. The crack is above the mag release button to just below the slide lock lever.
Does this mean the frame is trash or can it be repaired? Thanks for your help, P5 Guy

Earl wants $595 for a frame swap. That'll have to wait 'til after the holidays.
Earl lists $1495 for a new P88 so I guess I'm getting a bargin.:(
Thanks for the link, P5

Contact a number of high end gunsmiths and see of someone is willing to heli-arc weld the cracked frame. A replacement frame from Earl's will not have the same serial number as the slide and the barrel. Some smiths have done this type of work on aluminum framed Lwt. Commanders to keep a cherished gun shooting.

Of course, if it is just a shooter or a sentimental piece that you will never sell, then it may not matter.
