Unfortunately I was not able to get a photo of the compact Walther P99’s that were reported to be at the show, if they existed at all.  If you remember I reported on the second day that Walther had a compact P99 and was planning on Scandium framed PPK’s.  I was given this info privately and wanted a big shot with Walther to get me access to the compact for a photo, thereby scooping all the gun rags.  I found an executive and asked about the pistol.  I was told that there was no such thing.  Quite convincing.  He led me to believe that there might be a SW99 compact, but flat denied the existence of a Walther P99 compact.  I began to believe him, since the SW45 was never presented as being a Walther (maybe I made a mistake), until I mentioned the alloy framed PPK.  He denied any knowledge of that pistol as well.  What gave him away was that his neck, then face, began to turn bright red.  He didn’t lose his cool, but he was obviously greatly upset that I had this information.  At that point I was not too sure if he was telling the truth about the P99 Compact.  I guess we will all have to wait and see if he is a #### liar when the magazine articles start to hit in a few months ...

... Can anyone confirm this and/or maybe post a photo?

I read this article myself a while back. It was written by one of the people on the Firing Line forum.

There was a thread on it called Shot Show reports or something like that linking to his website. Denfoote, I think you and I even posted some comments to it.

IIRC the gun was supposed to have been released to the public earlier this year. However, no one including Walther USA has said anything else about it. It may have died on the boardroom table, as there don't appear to be any mentions on the German pages of Walther either.

I sent an e-mail to both Walther and S&W about this asking them point blank if there are any plans to release a compact version of the 99 in the size of a PPK but in 9mm. Walther did not respond but here's the reply from S&W ...

S&W will probably first come out with a .45, if the market response is positive (about the compact size, not the caliber), the German will likely to produce the 9mm.
