I have a few 12 round mags and a few 10 round mags. The other day I was playing with one of my 10 round AR mags and sure enough there is a cheep piece of plastic that was glued in there to make it so you can't fit more rounds in. I barely touched it and it popped right off and now it holds 30. In other words the AR mag that I had (manuf by one of the major companies) just "rigged" a 30 rounder to be a 10 rounder.

Is there a similar situation with the P99? All the mags I have look exactly the same but they are either 12 or 10 (I even think they came in 14 rounds for .40, but I don't have any). Is there a simple modification for this?

As I recall the 10 rounders have a different follower in them that is taller. If you have each then open them up and compare the followers side-by-side.

The plastic baseplate of the 10-round .40 mag is taller than the one on the 12-round mag, and the magazine tube correspondingly shorter. There is no way to modify the 10-rounder to fit 12 cartridges.
