The pistol seems to be designed around 124gr ammunition.

The pistol should run just fine on any decent quality off the shelf ammunition, but I would avoid steel cased ammunition for reliability and durability reasons, and submachine gun ammunition for safety reasons.

The 124g bullet

I am an ammunition reloader and came to the same conclusion as the other gentlemen that the 124g bullet suits my needs best. I shot IDPA competition and have opted for copper plated round nose bullets as well.

Remember that unlike most weapons the P99 comes with multiple height front sights in order to zero in based on your preferred cartridge.
