Why doesn't the avatar show up on the side of each post?

I managed to upload one, its on my profile, but that's it .....?

Well maybe I am confusing the issue with my lack of the proper "forum" jargon, and for that I apologise.

But I thought the "avatar" showed up next to your "name" on each post you make, not just in the "profile" section?

For instance, when I hit the "submit reply" button, and post this message on the forum, shouldn't the "avatar" show up like so:
