Thanks again for all the replies regarding the slide hold open issue with my newly acquired PP.
I’d now like to ask the experts here for help with the markings on this pistol as seen in the attached photos. The serial number of 944xx is on the right side of the frame behind the trigger guard, and is electropenciled inside the slide.
The “JW 214” engraving is at the base of the front strap.

Probably made in 1960, it's a Austrian service surplus. JW = Justizwache

Thanks very much for this information. Now that it’s age is known, I think it’s in quite good condition....it’s cosmetically the best of the PPs I’ve owned.

I think my example might have been fired quite a bit during it’s service...the bluing has been completely worn away on the bottom of the slide where it meets the frame. It’s so even it actually looks like it wasn’t blued during manufacture. Could that be possible?

Upon further examination it appears that the missing bluing from the bottom of the slide is wear, as there is still bluing at the edges....which is fine...I bought this as a shooter, not a safe queen...:)
