I know members up here like German guns and automobiles. How about German motorcycles? I’ve got one for sale. Posted on advrider and ibmwr, as well as Facebook and several craigslist servers, a 2012 BMW R1200GS Rally Edition.

I love it, but I'm not in the market.

My 1984 R65 has been sitting in the downstairs library for so many years now that I've forgotten how to drive it except in my dreams, when I go roaring across the pastures and jumping over split-rail fences.

Good luck with your sale. Sold my GSAdv just recently. Ad on Adventure Rider was successful. First time since I was fourteen years old that I have been without a MC.
Figured it was finally time to let loose.

Same here. I have been riding my Burgman scooter much more, and my riding style is changing as I continue to slide down the entropy curve. This is my eighth BMW motorcycle and quite likely my last.

Yes, I sold my BMW 1978 r800 a few years ago. If I still lived in rural Illinois I would still have it. Here in the Denver area, there are so many unlicensed and uninsured drivers, and a lot can't read English so street signs are pretty much useless in a lot of cases. Anyway, too much risk riding around here. Plus my reflexes and strength aren't what they used to be. Sad day when I sold it, but at least it went to someone in San Diego who will appreciate and care for it.

I sold my bike through a consignment dealer who sells Motorcycle, ATV, UTV, Snowmobile, or trailers. It worked out well for me, I did not have to show the bike to suspicious potential buyers. I didn't have to deal with payment methods, etc.

The people at the consignment place were great to work with as they are interested in what they sell.

Maybe there is a consignment dealer near you, if so I would at least look into it.

After an ugly, life-altering encounter with a dog in 1979 I have been reluctant to ride. I sold my rice burner in 1983 and I haven’t looked back.

I did, however, just get an Audi A7 that is beyond fine. The Germans sure know how to build a kick-ass car :cool:

It's always amazed me how common that is.
Well, I don't have a garage and there's no place else to keep it out of the weather, so I brought it into the house through the patio door into the library. It only has about 8K miles on it. It's like having large safe queen.

I just enjoy the machinery.

Cars, guns, motorcycles, trains...good machines are interesting. For we Luddites, the affection for 0s and 1s is a mystery.

Mike, you're either single or have a very tolerant spouse.
A late, divorced buddy used to clean his guns on the dining room table. Doubtful that my bride would go for that.

My woman and I have been wed for over a half-century, and I would NEVER clean guns on the dining room table. It's used only for eating and after dinner, that is where the anaconda curls up.

A nominal guest bedroom has always been, and shall remain, the workshop where gun smithing and cleaning are performed.

This reminds me of the mid-'80s, I had a ground floor apartment in New Rochelle, NY, was my GFs Uncle who owned the building.


I kept my GSX-R 750G in the living room (had a Honda CR-X in my parking spot, bike was for weekend runs to Toms River NJ).
The GF had me promise to stop parking in the bike in the living room, figured what she didn't know......


Her beat friend took me out one Friday to help her car shop, got back to the apartment, walked into my living room and, SUPRISE, the GF had arranged a surprise Birthday party for me. There were around 15 people standing around my bike. Whoops, busted!

Finally ended up with a man-cave to stink up with Hoppes and generally hide out; when I cuss at things, my bride (of 33 years) doesn't have to hear it.
The divorced buddy did a moonshot with a 1911 plug in that dining room; found it on top of the china cupboard months later.
Full sympathy on the affection for bikes; lived three doors from a Harley agency in the '50s; it was peopled with real characters back before bikes were big business.

I almost had to stop riding when i lost strength in a leg from sciatica. Fortunately, intense rehab exercise brought everything back and I am running again and riding my K1200S my favorite bmw of all! I have had about 25 beemers starting with a 1962 R69s at one time buying a new one every year for 8 years. I had a beautiful R100gs bumblebee and the first R1100GS but I prefer the protection from a full sport
touring fairing. I’m a factory trained bmw mechanic! The 1200s is lighter than my k1200RS but i’m thinking of getting a duck! My first bikes were ducks, pretty unreliable back in the early 60’s but loads of fun! I had a gorgeous red/white 250 Diana but The lights would always die when the sun set! Now that i'm an electrical engineer too, i’m ready for a new one, one of the supersports with the all ohlins setup.

I had quite a few back in the 70's. My favorite two were a 1975 R90S in Daytona orange, I put a lufmiester (a windjammer knockoff), bags, and a box on it, sent everything, including 2 helmets off to California to have it painted to match the bike. Oh, the dealer found some mag wheels for that thing too. That was one gorgeous bike.

Swapped that in on a 1977 R100RS. Put 13,000 miles on that thing in a year, and many of those miles were at 100 plus. I figured if I wanted to live, I better sell it.

Little time passed, got the itch again and Honda came out with the CBX, an inline, air cooled six. That machine was a hoot

Swapped the CBX for a Honda 750F. Put a Rabid Transit fairing on that puppy, built low, clip-on handle bars, built the linkage to move the gearshift back and up a few inches, shortened the brake pedal to work with the rear set foot pegs. I pulled in to the cycle shop one day, the owner walked out took one look at the front tire and his jaw dropped. He pointed to the front tire and said its wore out on the sides, but still has tread in the middle....said he never seen a street bike wear a tire like that....he'd only seen that type of wear on race bikes.

At some point I traded my 750F in on a Yamaha FZR 1000. Tooooo many bikes to list, some prior and some after.

^^^^^Young Jim and hot chick. :D Yep, I had a 650 Bonneville too. If I go waaaaay back I had a Simplex when I was about 12....had a paper route, rode that thing and flung papers out into customers yards.

I wish I had ALL my cars/trucks and motorcycles back, oh, and the Citabria too....oh, what the 8ell, and ALL my guns too.

Life is toooo short.

The ole Simplex.....2 cycle, belt drive, centrifugal clutch.

I used to race flat trac on my cousins TR6C. This was the single carb version of the Bonneville with different cams for more grunt. It was a dirty way to race!
