I was told by people on this board with experience with +P ammo that constant use will accelerate wear and tear on the pistol. But shooting 200 rounds to test functionality and then using it as a carry round with occasional firings of it to keep practice on it won't do much if any harm to the weapon. This idea makes good sense to me.
I just have to find a cheap source for good +P ammo
From test data from a few places, Cor-Bon 90 and 115 gr seems to be very good at transferring energy w/o overpenetration. I'd like to get some if I could find it for a reasonable price.
Currently I carry 9mm 115gr Winchester JHP - its the whitebox stuff. Not the best stuff out there I know.
Bottom line; unless you shoot nothing but +P ammo and shoot it a lot, I feel that it won't have an adverse effect on your weapon. It would be similar to encountering the occasional hot load in a set of standard pressure rounds - you won't even notice it.
