I post this on the High Road maybe this is a better place anyway here it goes

Ok guys...Most that have bothered to read any of my post (mostly on TFL) you know that I am a Walther lover...especially the P99 in any caliber...I have noticed on the Walther forum and on TFL that some guys make some improvements to their weapons...which is something that I have done to several pistol in the past...but I have not really found anything that I felt needed to changed on the P99...I have heard complaints about the DA trigger but found that after about 500 rounds it smoothes out nicely and the SA trigger is unbelievable(I recently let a friend shoot mine and he traded his H&K the next day for a P99)
Okay enough rambling.

1. What changes would like to see made to the 99(except for a .45auto and compact from Walther, we all want this).

2. What changes have you done to your P99?

3. Does anybody else thing that the 99 is great as is.

Answer any or all

I've had a custom steel spring guide made for my P99, 9mm. I am still in the process of sourcing meprolight sights for it, but being in the Philippines doesn't allow for a whole lot of options. Still waiting for a friend or relative to return from the States so I can have it bought. I'm currently in the process of making a custom mount for a surefire light which I can install on the front-end. It's basically a picatinny rail so I can attach a scope mount to my surefire E1

Wish list would be a more standard rail so that I could mount the M6 or other light/laser units to the front-end. Perhaps more options for barrels, in case i'd want to have one dedicated to target-pratice and the original one for self-defense. A lighter trigger spring would be nice, but not the feather-weight ones as they would suck in a defensive situation.

Changes done:

Installation of Night Sights from Earl's Repair Service. I've been very happy with the product.

Things I'd like to see:

(1) Reduced weight Trigger groups that can be "dropped in" for the standard and QA versions of the P99.

(2) An Armorer's Manual for the P99 with step by step instructions for a total takedown. The manual should detail the assembly / disassembly of the component parts. -It doesn't have to do this, but I'd also want it to explain how the pistol (including the variants) functions step by step with cutaway drawings / pictures.

Both of these things are available for Glocks and they should be available for the P99's. -IMHO

1. Ambi - slide release

2. Make the backstrap easier/quicker to exchange.

Ummm does'nt it already have an ambi slide release? Changed my backstrap in about 30 seconds with just a punch...

Anyway, I put on night sites, 4# Wolf spring, laser. Playing with lighter trigger spring now.

No ambi slide release, however it does have ambi mag release.

My only change might be the picatinny style accessory rail and the striker on the QA version to be a little longer on the cocked indicator, so it would protrude when cocked. Other than that I like it just the way it is.

Are you nuts.

How are you going to smooth out the plastic area around the rail? Beware the dremel its a gunsmiths best friend.

If you get it done right, send us some pictures, I'd be a little reluctant though. GL

I hope this doesn't sound mean-spirited, but the first thing I thought of when I read this was Michael Jackson's plastic surgery...if ya know what I mean.   I think his doctor used a Dremel.

A "Standard" Accessory Rail would definitely be nice.
Maybe two more small pieces of metal reinforcement on each side of the frame where the slide slams back (The only place I have wear on my frame). (note to self, take pics & post)

I'm not nuts, I asked if anyone had any ideas about this. You've convinced me not to do it. The Michael Jackson remark made it very clear...anyway, I don't think they make masks for guns, besides which, who wants to cover up such a fine gun

would like to see the rail in a more standard config.

i've switched out my striker spring to a 4# wolff spring for a Glock and added Mep's.

the gun is great as is, but there's always something to tinker with.
