I am very interested in this and I was wondering if anyone here has done this or if you know someone who has done this 357 conversion for the 40cal. The faq says that 2 people make them or did make them. Bar-Sto and Jarvis. These companies respective websites do not include info on this anymore so I am not sure if this is still availible and if so how many are out there? Would I have to buy these from a private party?

Just found a site with more info and test info.

I had looked at the barsto site within the last month, and they had the .357 and 9mm conversions for the .40 listed. I don't see it listed now either. I say give them a call.

My plan is to get a dedicated .40 and convert it, with no intention to go back. That'll be my 4th P99 (9mm, 40, and 9mm compact.)

Let me know what you find out.

Rmacin247,

I have this EXACT set up!
I have a Black P99 in .40s&w.
I bought a Barsto .357sig barrel form a member on GlockTalk about a yr ago as he was selling his p99 off that had this extra barrel.
It arrived and looked great. I installed it but it would not let the barrel lock up.
I called Barsto and spoke w/ Irv. He told me to send it in w/ my slide and $15.- for shipping and he woudl fit it.
I did so and 3 weeks later I had my my "new" .357sig barrel perfectly fitted to my P99 slide.

I have to say that it is very tight and shoots extremely accurately!!

Get one, but to buy anew one it will cost a couple of hundred and take a while to make it.
spend the extra and have it fitted( send yous slide in)

I was just about to do the same. Bar-Sto quit making them and will not work one up for me for even an extra $100.00. Jarvis has them but they are not listed on their website and they told me that they did not recommend one for carry as they (theirs) are not 100 percent reliable.

I'm bummed, used, new, some other company, anyone got any other info on where to get one.

(Maybe if we all call Bar-Sto they would run a special batch, on Glocktalk a guy wants one bad also)

Bar-Sto probably dropped the product line because of lack of interest…….although they did have some reliability issues with the stock Walther pistol. I bought an extended “ported” barrel from them about a year ago and had feeding problems from the very beginning. This was with Speer Gold Dot JHP ammo. Sent the barrel and slide back to them [ as they requested ] and 6 weeks later the stuff was returned with the same problem.

They were so arrogant [ I have building guns for 30 years…..yada, yada, yada ] they would not listen to the solution. I made radical changes to their feed ramp design of the Stainless Steel barrel and now the pistol will eat anything I feed it. No I am not a genius,…………… I just adjusted the feed ramp to match the one found on a standard Walther barrel – no brainer in my book. Bar-Sto for whatever reason cut a “Narrow” feed ramp in their barrels and most of my hollow points would jam against the bottom of that feed ramp locking up the gun badly.

I would not trade my “adjusted” Bar-Sto barrel for anything………..its accuracy can’t be touched. I also brought the finish of the barrel to a high mirror look. People swear I have a chromed barrel –smile- The surface is so smooth….oil will bead up on the barrel.

Hey sniper350,

You clearly know what you are doing and what you say makes a ton of sense. Since Bar-Sto is seeming out but Jarvis still has them if I was to buy a Jarvis barrel and had nose dive problems is there any chance you would work over the feed ramp for me for fifty bucks or whatever. I realize that there is no guarantee on this and if tweaking does not work that is my problem. After calling Jarvis again it seems like they are all nose dive jams and if that was the Bar-Sto problem I can't help but think that your solution has a very good but not guaranteed chance of working.

Not to mention I am really out of options if I want to 357 it other than this or a used one which is going to be darn hard to find.

Rockets,
I will be willing to adjust the feed ramp for you for free.......as long as you realize that there is no guarantee & no liability on my part. You would need to post a photo of the barrel's feed ramp so I could ascertain if my modification will work with a Jarvis design. I have not seen their barrels and I am only fimiliar with Bar-Sto barrels.

All I did with my Bar-sto barrel was to approximate the feed ramp of a standard Walther barrel........then polished the ramp to a mirror finish. Your ramp must be so smooth---powder residue will not stick to it.........you will be able to wipe it clean to a mirror finish with a dry rag. As I do after every shooting session.

I will try and get some photos up on this forum of my barrel---shame I don't have any before images to compare to.

Care must be taken with this Modification that you DO NOT get too close to the chamber area and undermine the "fully supported " chamber. Most of the metal that must be removed is at the other end anyway.

Yes the "nose dive Jam" as you put it is a very accurate description of what was happening with my barrel. It seems { at least in my case } Bar-sto refused to accept that possibility. The correction seemed obvious to me---- and since the barrel was no good to me the way it was and after 6 weeks Bar-sto did nothing to correct the problem.......I said to hell with it, I will give it a go myself.

I made adjustments in stages...... trying to get by with the least amount of modification......but as it turned out, the barrel's feed ramp needed major work. I finally got the feed ramp to the point where it would no longer support a "nose dive" Jam.

Give me a day or two and I will show what I did to the barrel and then you can decide.

Thanks buddy, I look forward to it. You are making a ton of sense to me and as I say, if it does not work out it's my problem, I'll even give you something it writting that says so but I gotta at least throw some ammo your way or something.
