Just received a Walther flared magwell 'funnel'. Went about installing it on one of my Q's....pretty easy. As anyone knows that's done this before, you've got to cut out a little rubber from the back strap....no sweat as I'd just purchased another one...just for this project. Then I had to whack off about 3/16" from the bottom of my grip sleeve. Other n' that, installation was a snap.

Then I inserted my factory 17 round mag and it went 'ker-thunk'.....wouldn't insert all the way. I didn't spend too much time looking to see why, I just grabbed one of my modified Sig P226 20 round mags and slapped er' in there. Worked like a champ.

I'll trouble shoot the 17 round mag later. :D

This is the gun Bart milled the slide on to accept a Delta Point Pro, no adaptor plate....optic bolted directly to the slide. Actually makes a nice carry gun....20 + 1 :D

Sig P226 mag.

There's the mod job....works perfectly in PPQ M1/M2 or P99, MR9, SW99. If I had a Canik I'd try it in that too. :D

Do the feed lips of that magazine impact the ejector when inserting it into the pistol?

What mags were made (or are supposed) to be used with that magwell?

Answer to first question: Nope. And the reason for that is, I made a relief cut in the mag. That's pretty much a standard procedure when I'm modifying mags. (pictures below).

Answer to second question: I'm not aware of any restrictions on mags. However, I just tried the 17 and a 15 round mag. On both mags, the front of the base plate makes contact with the funnel, leaving the mag about 1/4" low. If I had a square nosed P99C baseplate I'd put one on a 15 round mag and give it a try (at this point, I'm just curious). The other remedy is simply to start grinding on the front of the baseplate until it inserts all the way. OR maybe the answer is to use some of those aftermarket magazine extensions.

The funnel was actually produced for the competition market.....and with that in mind....was probably anticipated that competitors would be using aftermarket high capacity mags (of some sort/brand, etc.) Funnel does not accept the factory baseplates....at least without modification.

However, my Beretta 30 rounder and Sig 20 rounder work like a champ.

Here's the frame with the Beretta 30 rounder inserted and Sig mag laying next to it.

This is the Beretta mag....can see the notch and clearance for the ejector. The Sig P226 mag looks the same when inserted. (I ALWAYS check em' for clearance)

Here's the Sig P226 mag showing the notch.

TF obviously wants you to use/buy their base plates or extensions.

Yep, I visited their site. Their +6 extensions are made to work with their funnel. They also offer the 'squared off' baseplates. :D Their products ARE top notch. I just didn't have a need for another mega round mag....I've got plenty already. Just wanted to see if I could run what I brung....sort of.......... :D

TF makes the Magwell (Walther Branded or theirs) and the extensions. Living in FL (but with a NYS permit too), I bought my PPQ Q5 with 10's so I can shoot in 10 rnd states and register a 10 rnd part number/model), bought 15s for the other states & FL. Yup, I bought 5 extensions for the 10s (black), 5 extensions for the 15s (blue), and got the +4 extensions from Springer (blue & numbered). Between color coding the 10s and 15s I figured I'd reduce the chance of that screw up. The Springer screw lock (IMHO) is 100% superior to the screw on plate in the TF/ Walther +4 extensions.... Hope this helps... Yes, and I threw up on the unnecessary expense....
Honest outlaw on YouTube did a review of his Q5 match with a TF magwell on it. He had to Dremel it a little on the inside to get it to work. He was also using TF +6 extensions.

6:30 mark he talks about the magwell and the mod he made.
Don’t think he is talking about the same issue you are having.
