Hi Guys, I recently acquired a new to me Interarms PPK and I’m wondering where to get replacement mags for it... do I need to search for the old mags that were specifically made for this version or will current 2019 Walther Arms ppk mags work? I’m guessing that the S&W mags will not fit. Thanks for the help!

Italian made Mec Gar magazines will work just fine and not break the bank.

So I bought some Mec-Gars but they won’t mate up with the grips (Nills) on my ppk due to pinky extension. Does anybody know if I can just change out the plastic extension piece (from Mec-Gar plastic to Walther plastic) or will I need to return the mags to Mec-Gar and buy legit Walther Arms mags? I need to keep the Nill grips...

Never tried myself but normally extensions are interchangeable.

Thanks I will try... it seems as if the track/ base plate is much wider on the Mec-Gars. I will find some old Interarm mag extensions and try it.

believe it or not I found some old style mag extensions for sale on ebay some time back. I switched out several to replace the "gumdrop" style extensions on my MecGar magzines. They may be listed on Gunbroker too under "parts"

Cool. I have been checking both eBay and GB but no luck so far. Were the ones you found Walthers? I ask because I see that the original mag extensions are very narrow and the Nills are exacting/tight fit. If the grips weren’t so awesome, I’d toss them to make it easy on myself. But they are awesome.

I just ordered some new mags from Walther Arms today. I’m hoping that they are identical to the old Interarms/Mec-Gar mags so that they fit with the Nills.

I hope so. Maybe it’s just the plastic extension that’s different. The only differences I see via the images are the Walther imprint, and nickel vs steel (but probably nickel plated).

BTW: I like these Nill grips as well... ;)

Yeah those Nill grips really help the shooter control the little gun. I just wish they accepted the wider mag extension. The extension fit up is a pain in the butt for such a small thing...

It appears that the original Walther plastic extensions aren’t just slide on/slide off. Last night, I tried to take the extensions off of my German ppks mags (to put on the Mec-Gars) and those suckers are on there GOOD.

And the story ends... with me sanding the inside edges of the Nill grips. And sanding some of the plastic edges off the old style ‘blued’ mag extensions. All of the stainless interarms mags w/extensions fit just fine.

The new Mec-Gars were a no go, as were the new Walther Arms mags.

I must really love these Nill grips to go through all this trouble. Yup.

As between Nill grips and those stupid plastic pinkie rests, it's no contest. I'd remove the pinkie rests and scrub them on sandpaper in the blink of an eye.

I hear ya! But the Nills were a pain in the @ss too... I had already taken sandpaper to them to get past the internal ‘tabs’ situation. I don’t have proper woodworking tools so I had to do everything with a sheet of sandpaper.

Unless I can prove that I won’t have that frame tab problem with the Nills for my ppks guns, then there will be no more Nills in my future. They are awesome but damn.

The MecGar base plate is wider than the Walther/Manurhin base plate. I'm not sure you can sand enough material off of the resulting wider bumper that fits over the wider base plate and still have the bumper retain its grip. You will have sanded too much material off to retain the groove the base plate fits in if you try to match the Walther. You could file down the wider steel base plate on the MecGar mags but then only the real Walther/Manurhin bumper plates would fit and those don't seem to be just laying around. 1917

Absolutely right. The attached photos in this topic prove that the base plate on the Mec-Gars (and new Walther mags) are wider than the older mags. After figuring this out, I ended up acquiring some older mags and they were only slightly too wide for the wood grips. I sanded the black plastic edges a bit and now they fit. Same base plate so it was easy. I wouldn’t try to sand the new mags.

I did find one old bumper and baseplate on eBay/GB but yeah, they don’t seem to be widely available.

For now, my problem is solved and I get to keep my Nill grips. So I am happy.

🙂
