1911-22 A Joy To Shoot

512 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Wildtoad

I got to play with my Colt Cold Cup Trophy 1911-22 today and it was a lot of fun. This gun shoots just like a standard 1911 45 except there is no recoil.

Parts are 80% interchangeable. I replaced my Hammer, Sear and Sear Spring with a kit from Cylinder & Slide that just dropped in and brought my trigger down to a very nice 4.5 pounds. It was over 9 pounds from the factory.

I love the sights on this gun although I did replace the front sight with a fiber optic from Dawson Precision.

Today I fired over 100 rounds of CCI Mini Mags and 100 rounds of Federal Bulk 550 pack ammo without a single malfunction.

This is one joy to shoot.

I bought a Colt 1911 A1 22LR and have about 500rds through it without any problems. Fun gun to shoot, I may put the regular Colt Hammer, Sear and Sear Spring.
The factory trigger is about 4.5 lbs., I see the need to replace the front sight with a fiber optic from Dawson Precision.
I've been looking, but none are available.

Some sites said "discontinued", but I contacted Walther/Umarex, and they said it is not discontinued.

They have been OOS for a while now.

I also replaced the front sight on my Government Model with a Dawson Precision front sight. It made a big difference in my enjoyment of this pistol.

I haven't seen any Umarex 1911-22 locally in a long time but I do see them pretty regularly at Rock Island Auction.

I bought a Government model months ago and it is the most reliable, accurate, problem free pistol I own ( not that I have a lot of them). It has yet to malfunction.

I have made two mods. The first is installed a full length recoil rod from Taylor-Tactical-Supply. The second, from the same place, is installed an upgrade kit to the stock magazine to hold 15 rounds. Kit will covert either the 10 or 12 round.

Having had/have a P22 and a PPK/S .22 the Colt is a much better pistol.

Does the upgrade kit to the stock magazine to hold 15 rounds work as good as the 12 rd mag?
I’ve had no issues with the operation of the mags (I have 4) after the upgrade. Just so you know, you lose the side button which I never used anyway, instead I just use a speed loader. On the 12 round mag, not much of an effort to make the change. The 10 rnd one (which is actually a 12 rnd with a plug to restrict it to 10) takes a bit more effort, but worth it if you want to get to 15.

I’m not sure, but they may not send the upgrade to states that prohibit gtr than 10 rnds.
Sounds like the 10 to 12 rounds upgrade for the PPQ 22 mags, and those are super easy to do. Like, you can do it while eating a sandwich ;)
True, not difficult other than having to remove the glued in plug on the 10 round mag that’s not on the 12.
