KKJ bolt sticking
noobie on this forum, and noobie to walther rifles.
bought a unique walther with a thumbhole stock and the bolt was a bit sticky to close, an after a few hundred rounds the bolt will not open after firing, unless a LOT of force is used.
I have not done a good cleaning of all the grooves and spaces around where the barrel is threaded in yet as nothing seems to make sense, the bolt sticks just as the bolt face connects with the chamber end of the receiver.
it is almost as if the bolt warped or something.
would using some lapping compound on the front of the bolt body be too aggressive? also I do not know what part of the bolt might be wearing.
and I don't know how to post photo's yet, sorry, will get there.
thank in advance for any feedback
I ws just reading this fella's post:
and it occurred to me that I had tightened the action screws after receiving the gun as they seemed to be kinda loose.
after reading about the cross bolt safety (which mine has, no wing type safety on the bolt itself) I loosened up the rear action screw just a bit, and the bolt now slides in smooth and true.
so if that is wha tit tis it is the easiest fix I have ever encountered- are there any specs as to what the torque on the actions screws are to be at?
Sounds like a bedding job would be beneficial. I am a collector but also a competitive shooter so I did my KKS-D. I love shooting my old guns against the newer rifles at local matches.
Thanks Caribou - and timely too - I was shooting it at a silhouette practice yesterday and a few of the gents who heard the story made the same comment: time for bedding the action. I guess I better pull the stock off - but I am concerned that the crossbolt will be in the way - I don't want to mess with that thing.
