.22 ammo

I pickup 425 Federal Match .22 today. The price average was $6.16 per hundred rds. Every gun store I stopped at had .22's.

I haven't fired any Federal-yet in the PPK/S. However, I will see how this works.

What area are you in? I live north of Philly, in PA. I went to four LGS today and came home with 280 mixed rounds. 100 Remington golden bullets, 100 no name and 80 American Eagle. All high volicity. In one of the stores, I bought a new Ruger 10/22 and could not get any ammo for it.

It's still slim pickings around here, tho' we scored some .22 ammo at Grice's when we were in the area to go hunting.
Centerfire AR stuff seems to be loosening up, so perhaps the .22s will as well.

I've some experience with the Federal AutoMatch; good stuff at reasonable prices before all the chit began.

22 ammo up here in northwestern Oregon is nearly non existent for nearly a year. I like to buy US made ammo, but now the time has come that I hope foreign .22 ammo manufactures export millions of rounds to our shore to lower this shortage. It is clear nearly a year later US .22 ammo manufactures are not up to the task to increase their manufacturing capacity to meet demand. So lets review, now there are millions of gun owners now than just a few years ago for many reasons including politics.

So more ammo, including .22 , is required to meet this demand. I had contacted Cci and was advised they will not open another ammo plant to increase production. The answer was once they do that they will have to lay off personnel when supply increases and demand drops.

I advised them that there are now millions of more gun owners than only 3 years ago, the first .22 ammo shortage, yet why not increase your capacity by building another operation facility to just meet normal demand.

There has been .22 available in the southern end of the valley in western Oregon for quite a while. I stopped in about 5 different gun stores and they all had .22 available. They do limit the amount you can purchase, one to two hundred rounds or one of the bulk boxes. They just want to make sure that there is some for everyone. I have purchased about 1500 rds of CCI mini mags in the last three months. I pickup some .22 when I think about it and happen by a gun store; when their price is reasonable.

.32 is about non-existence, However, 9mm, 380, even in bulk show up regularly. There is a ton of 40 S&W, 45, 38 special, 12 gauge, 556, 308, and 7.62x39.

We went to the Cabelas Store in Lacey Washington on 122613. I took a look
at the new Walther PPK/S in .22 lr with the nickel finish. Not a bad looking
pistol for the price.

But here is the catch. The store did not have one box of .22 lr ammo
for sale. The salesman stated they haven't had any .22 lr ammo in quite a few days and it does not make it easy to sell a .22 lr firearm if the new owner
can't even buy a box of ammo for it. Its like buying a car but there is no
gas available to drive it.

My 28 year old son called me today and told me Dad, there is no .22 ammo available here in Port Angeles, Washington. I told him that many years ago I stocked up when Walmart had 550 boxes for 8.00 or so.

He told me he was coming down on Friday....

I happened to be in a small town in northeast Pennsylvania and figured I'd try the local stores for .22 or 9mm ammo... No luck, nothing but 12 gauge shotgun shells everywhere I tried...

Cabela's here puts ammo aside to sell to the buyers of new guns. Several of the LGS here, do this. It is pretty hard to sell a new gun if there is not ammo available. You might ask them: "If I purchase this gun, today, is there any ammo available for me?" "Then when you have some ammo available. I will purchase it or from someone who does."

It's amazing how much hoarding is still going on with the .22 ammo. As I mentioned in another thread a guy here is asking $150 for Federal 555 bulk packs. I am fortunate that I am able to hit the Bass Pro early and have a couple year supply on hand. Sooner or later people are going to realize they'll never use 10K rounds.
