When proof changed to eagle over swastika?

I have a 1942 PP with eagle over "N" proof marks. However, I thought in 1940 this proof mark was changed to an eagle over a swastika. I would like to know the significance of this disparity. Does this indicate pistols with the two types of proof marks were manufactured in two separate locations? At first I misunderstood that this pistol of mine was of prewar manufacturer, but the 1942 date indicates otherwise.

Bob, The eagle over Swastika was on Police Acceptance guns. It was not a proof mark. The eagle over N was from 1940 & before that it was crown over N.
Martin and GeoNole94 like this.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. The history of Walther and their PP style pistols is a bit confusing to me. The terminology such as proof marks, inspection marks, and acceptance marks is not helping either.

You'll find an Eagle/Swastika on military P.38's though. Maybe that's causing some confusion. It's between the two Waffenamt stamps on the right slide. This is a Walther ac 45:
