The markings on the post war Manuhrin and Walther pistols were etched rather than roll marked. Using this method there was little or no finish work required when the guns hit Germany.

When Walther took over production they roll marked the slides.

I'll look for it. So far the only copy I've found is over $100 and it's an out of print paperback. A couple of other out of print books about Walthers are similarly priced.

Walther Books

Earl is offering for half the price you spotted, $50. That's double the price from just a few months ago. You should look around, perhaps post a WTB notice in the Trading Post, or check the P38 Forum and see if anyone has one for sale over there.

Also check your local gun shows. I purchased my copy at, and continue to see it available at gun shows I visit.

Even check local smaller gun shops around. Here in KY I've found a lot of prizes because it's local and not not belonging to a big organization. Even pawn shops can produce something unawares to most.....

If you get serious or even semi-serious about Walther's whatever the book (Dieter H. Marschall, Walther Pistols Models 1 through P99) cost you, it will save you more. You know the old saiding, buy a bookcase and fill it with every book on the subject you can find, read all of them before you start a collection.

Got to tell however, there aren't really a lot of books on Walthers, but if I could only have one this would be the one.
