“Black” PPK/S’s are now out in retail land.

Just as Walther said (“early summer”) the black PPK/S’s are circulating at retail and available. Guess they were as good as their word.
Saw a couple of different folks post pics of their latest buy one gentlemen saying he has had his about two weeks. This is at another Walther site.
Let the hunt begin!

I think the issue is that pistol, to me, looks completely “I just bought it and here it is” look.
Once it gets cleaned, oiled, used, whatever Walthers coating is, I think it looks much better then that pic.
Of course I’d like a blued version but some places are asking $750 for this one.
Blued probably be close to a grand. I’m a PPK fan but...

They resurrected Suncorite from the L66A1 era?

I wonder if it’s actually stainless with a black Ceracote finish.

Why make another run from carbon steel when you can add that finish over the stainless.

I thought they were going to use melonite or something like it. Do you think it's simply Cerakote?

I always assumed it would be Cerakote
I’ll have to look up these others finishes mentioned.

It looks like spray paint. The PPK is supposed to be a sophisticated classic, I'm assuming the folks in Ft. Smith have seen some of the earlier versions.
I can't imagine when this came off the assembly line someone said "nailed it".

Okay. In a (probably futile) attempt to save judgement of the poor thing based on one photo here is another shot of another new one. It’s getting there.
In my opinion the Walther finish looks just fine with a little wear and use based on my other Walthers. Plus, I suspect, the era of the “old school blue” is over. It’s a pistol not a desktop ornament. Is it reliable and accurate is the question for me. The rest is a value judgement left to the individual buyer.
Embrace the Black Side Luke!
