Good explanation, particularly the 'shoe horned in' comment.
I have always found the Bersa more pleasant to shoot.

ETA-stopped at a local shop this AM, and the Bersas were also very reasonably priced; less than $300, and several in inventory.

I think that was the point about Walther making these guns again instead of outsourcing it to S&W et al.

3) It is radically less expensive than the PPK.

4) It has a larger grip which makes it more comfortable to shoot.
5) It is currently in production. Perhaps the PPK will start shipping soon - perhaps not.
BTW: I carry a revolver.
Thanks for the thoughtful response. I sincerely appreciate the education.

Nothing wrong with a good revolver. Hard to beat a J frame for a small defensive oriented firearm.

If they do make ''new''-PPKs,the guns will be made on very much different machines. In the old time trained machinist made them, but technology improved a lot since.CNC machines are much more accurate/uniform.

Like the rest of you, I too am tired of waiting. I carry a Bersa just because. However, I did bid and won a S&W late 2013 build PPK/S, as I got tired of not being able to get a PPK/S, and even the S&W versions are drying up, and getting more expensive, when they are available. The PPK/S did have a lot of carry scratches on it, but internally, it was almost virgin. An afternoon on my gun bench, and it looks nice again.

As to the new Walther PPK builds, I closely examined the display models Walther had at the 147th NRA show in Dallas. Nicely finished and machined. Everything fit right and gun did not rattle, i.e., slide to frame fit was nice. The one thing I did not like is Walther has made the decision to return to the pre war machined in rear sight. While it is more squared off then the original, it is still too thin to find at speed, IMHO. Maybe Walther will see fit to return to the post war broader rear sight that works pretty good. We can only hope.

The main distributor I buy from just added four new SKUs to its computer, which means, with respect to this large distributor, that they have placed orders.

The SKUs are:

WAL 4796001 PPK 380 SS 6RD
UPC #723364209932

WAL 4796002 PPK 380 BL 6RD
UPC #723364209949

WAL 4796004 PPK/S 380 SS 7RD
UPC #723364209956

WAL 4796006 PPK/S 380 BL 7RD
UPC #723364209963

I doubt we are more than a month away now.

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Retail is going to be $699. I would guess they'll be $599 in the shops. Considering you can buy a much better looking IA model for $400 I'm not expecting it to be a serious contender in today's market. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Perhaps, but they have not been on this distributor's web site before today.

From 30 years experience in dealing with this distributor, I know their policy is that until they are actually allowed by the manufacturer to place an order, SKUs do not appear on their computer. These went up today.
