Always decocked/always DA, as with my pair of Sig P6 (modified mainsprings), Sig P225 ('87) and CZ PCR, all of which are DA/SA, along with the former .380 Russian Makarov (my first carry gun).

This DA habit pattern is probably why the P99 AS is so popular with civilian gun owners, compared to the PPQ, or similar HK striker-fired guns etc (?).

Chambered, cocked, long trigger.

I used to carry my P99 and P99c decocked but I found that it made me uncomfortable. I always was aware that they were decocked and didn't feel properly prepared.

Of course I only carry my P99 or the P99c when I can't carry a PPQ.

Decocked with one in the chamber is the way to go or like said before, get something else to carry!

Actually the "way to go" is a function of one's training, one's needs, one's carry equipment and one's personal preferences and/or one's job requirements.

I've been asked to carry a DA/SA weapon but never told what condition to carry the weapon, even in situations where the ammunition has been mandated (say frangible rather than JHP or FMJ).

The OP asked what is the preferred carry...
crows likes this.

Part of the reason I love my P99 is because I get to carry it like it’s one of the hammer guns that I used to carry. A round in the chamber and double action on the first shot.

Any time I discuss how I carry a weapon I'm serious...
