Check your slide stop

I'd like for members to lock their slide back, inspect the square hole where the slide stop spring is visible, and report back what they find.
Also, please include the date code (not the serial number...)
My goal here is to pin down when the fix for the "slide lock" issue came to pass since this seems to be the most common problem associated with the PPS, and the biggest deterrant to potential buyers who have done their research...

This is the hole...(obsolete slide stop)

(fixed slide stop)

Also, for anyone who has sent their PPS back for repair, please note that as well.

Thanks,
SB

Date code is the "AI" aft of the antler, right?
Yup, you got it!

And dave, just to be clear, you have the old style (uncovered spring), right?

AK on the slide
Old style stop

What is the difference? Should I be concerned with having the old one? PPS functions normally.
With the old style stop, there is a potential for the spring to jump off the track and end up underneath the slide stop, locking the slide open, and rendering the weapon completely inoperable.
The fix is noted in my original post, in picture number 2 - notice how the spring is covered by the "tang".
I hate to sound negative, but I feel that with the old style slide stop, there is an everpresent potential for this failure.

I had 2600 rounds through my AI ('08) PPS when the slide locked back and I had to send it to S&W for repair. What I got sent back, I feel, was slide stop V 2.0.

Thanks to everyone for their participation

I just recieved my PPS 9mm back (10 days).

My question is, why Walther didn't use the slide stop, with a tab style for my repair?

Wow, that's interesting.
I would also be interested to hear if the spring broke, or just jumped the track.
In my intial emails to S&W's repair tech, he stated that they would simply replace my spring with one with a longer leg.
Your spring appears to be the same as mine was, as far as "leg length".

I agree with MilSpec..They're probably just using up old stock.
My letter included with my pistol was rather lengthy, and noted that I was aware of the slide stop issue being a common issue.
What all did you detail with your letter?

REPAIRED: REPAIRED SLIDE STOP SPRING
REPAIRED: REPAIRED SLIDE STOP SPRING
REPAIRED: REPLACED SLIDE STOP

Why repaired slide stop spring twice?
Looks like they replaced with a old stock slide stop.

If it broke once . . . or was it made with different metal.

My enclosed letter didn't note I was aware of the slide stop issue.

Coolmac,
I have no idea why they'd state they replaced the spring twice...Maybe that's just a typo?
My repair slip stated: REPLACED TRIGGER BAR, which makes NO sense at all, especially when I can visually see that they replaced the slide stop mechanism, as well as the entire striker assembly.

I see the two small square the top left one is where it stops and it goes down towards by the trigger , its jammed some times and not sure why. this might have been the issue, if it happens again i will check here first..
If it "jammed sometimes" this is not the issue. What kind of "jam" are you talking about anyway?
It's difficult trying to interpret what you're saying, but trust me, if you get a slide-lock failure, you'll know...
You won't be able to get the slide closed. Simply moving the slide stop down will not release the slide. It is a catastrophic failure.
It will involve a trip back to S&W.
Do a search on "PPS Slide Lock Failure" to read more.....

Well . . . I finally spoke with S&W about my repair with old stock parts.

The tech informed me, this slide stop was a new version, using different manufacture specs.

The slide stop, with the spring keeper looks far superior.

Just ran thru 200 rounds , shooting steel plates, loving the PPS once again.

S&W customer service, here I come!

Well at 505 rounds, more or less, the slide stop gave way. Actually, it fell off in my hand after returning from the range and preparing to clean. I removed the slide, felt something drop in my hand, and there was my slide stop, yikes! It had snapped, the spring was still in place. Had no problems at the range - maybe I was one shot away from a failure. So, I'll be contacting S&W tomorrow. Quite disappointing, but I should get the new slide stop now (mine is a BA date code with the old style). Gonna ask them to polish up the ramp in the frame - I just noticed it has some prominent burrs.

I only have a cell phone camera, so no decent pics.
