P99 Sight choices

I want to replace sights on both a P99AS and a P99AS Compact. I have searched and read a number of posts here about sights and am a bit confused. Part of my confusion is that I saw references to certain brands of sights causing POI issues but without reverences to the particular model of sight, where the manufacturer makes a few different models. Some of my confusion is just confusion....

Anyway, i am looking for durable sights, metal probably preferred but not essential, and if possible something brighter up front. Frankly, I would probably be fine with replacing the stock front sight with something more easily seen quickly , if the height worked with the stock rear. I don't really care between tritium, fiber optic, etc., but I want something durable.

Any suggestions appreciated.

TFX Pros may be a good option for you. I have a set on my PPQ M1 but they will work for the P99 too. There is a forum member ‘Olsoul’ that can tell you all about them. He has a few posts and pics about them in here.

Ignore that video...that was horrid. I've never had to file the rear sights before mounting them. But I'm using a P500 sight pusher which is a bit more robust than his set up.

The TFX Pros are great sights for a carry weapon. The only downside on the P99 and P99c are that they partially cover the decocker and you will be unable to remove the decocker for a thorough slide strip without removing the rear sight.

To be honest I've mounted them on my P99 and P99c and never needed to remove the decocker so it hasn't been an issue.

The TFX and TFX Pros preserve the Walther POA/POI at self defense ranges and are extremely rugged. They combine tritium vials with fiber optics giving one nice light gathering capabilities plus nightsights in a robust metal housing. They are great at dawn and dusk. The orange ringed front sight is easily visible during the day and target acquisition and re-acquisition is a snap.

All my carry weapons have TFX Pros mounted. I don't leave home without out them.

If you decide to go with the TFX or TFX Pros and mount them yourself feel free to PM me. I've mounted lots of them and can guide you throught the process.

I, too, had to have my sights filed to install them onto my P99c. In fact, I called TruGLO to verify if it that was plausible, or if I had been doing something wrong. TruGLO informed me that for the P99 specifically, filing 'might' be required.

They stated that they're research showed minor discrepancies between older 99s to newer, and minor discrepancies between 99s to Qs. The two stated that the sights were sized to for the largest gap their research experienced and that minor filing might be required. He finished by stating that the 99 and one other firearm (don't remember which) might require this filing.

I've got them on my P99c and the orange front ring helps tremendously to quickly acquire a sight picture.
However they are quite tall and if I were to carry it in my pocket instead of my PPS, I'd worry about snagging on them when drawing the pistol.
For long distance shooting, further out than 15 yards, the front post covers A LOT of the target.

I've never had that issue with my TFX or TFX Pros. Best EDC sights I've ever mounted and I've tried a bunch but that's why there are a bunch out there.

Good luck and I hope your next setup works out for you.

I've mounted lots of TFX and TFX Pros. I'm not sure what you mean by "fitted" but I've never had to take a file to any of my sights to mount them on any of my Walthers.
I've mounted them on a Q45, three PPQ 9mm, two P99s and a P99c, both the TFX and TFX Pros.

What does fitted mean?

I have. If a sight is slightly oversize and won't at least start into the dovetail it may need to be trimmed down a little. It doesn't take much. Just a little bit with some 320 grit emery cloth. With so many different manufacturers of firearms and sights I don't think its reasonable to expect everything to fit perfectly all of the time.

Of the last two P38 front sights I installed one went right in and the other needed to be fit. When I put Trijicon sights on my P99C the rear sight wouldn't even start. It took about five seconds of sanding and then it slide right in.

I was talking very specifically about the TruGlo TFX and TFX Pro sights especially the rear sights.
I have seen a number of sights ruined by filing.

There is a reason these sights are made to be fitted extremely tight to the point of "boy these things won't even start". They are designed for EDC use.

True Glo expressly tells you that the TFX line of sights may be fitted by filing the sight"NEVER FILE YOUR GUN"to a point that the sight can be driven into the dovetail without a excessive amount of effort.THEY ALSO RECOMMEND THAT THEY DO NOT RECOMMEND A SIGHT PUSHER ON THEIR SIGHTS.....THE SIGHTS FOR THE P99 are also designed for the PPQ and the PPQ is a different size then the P99 so TRUGLO makes a sight that is between the two.IF you hammer the sight into the dovetail or believe you know what your doing with a sight pusher and you do manage to get the sight into the dovetail you have probably bent the sight and i bet you have deformed the dovetails lips. The Walther dovetails are actually a very small cut in a much taller cut.the small cut is where you file on the sight and you may need to remove maybe .0009 to .001 maybe .003 to get a fit that you can actually use.Remember the Walther factory sights use a screw and post to move the sight into and out of the channels of the dovetail to adjust for windbags and elevation.,if these are not looses enough you will not be able to adjust anything at all.And some sights come with a set screw in the middle as does the TFX pro--so they do need to be somewhat easy to move ..I have seen maybe 1 or 2 sight sets in my 45 years of gunsmithin that don't need to be fitted.the ones that don't usually fall out on the ground at the range into the mud or concrete.-You don't have to locktite or weld them up.you would be surprised how strong a dovetail is .that's why they have lasted and were invented in the first place...HAVE A GREAT DAY AT THE RANGE AND REMEMBER SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
