Thanks for the advice, I used several applications of ballistol and clp to get the black off. It would seem that it was years of grease, dirt and carbon. I am shocked at what was underneath it all. It is a really good looking pistol. While the finish is not perfect, I will leave it as is. I have refinished 20+ pistols with no problems. I am cautious, do my research , and have been painting for 51 years. Cars, rifles, pistols and everything else in between. I use KG Gunkote because it is a very durable and thin coating that does not affect stampings and engravings. I will be happy not to paint this, it looks great and will be 50 in 2021. That says a lot for it's manufacture and quality.
Thanks again for all the help

Village Arms .22
Hello from Hot Springs Village, AR

New to the group, I am a FFL and offer cleaning and repair services to our community, One of mu customers has asked me to look up his Walther PPK/S Kurtz 9MM/.380ACP S/N 253601 made in France. The pistol does not appear to have been fired after the factory test shots. It is in the original box with all the factory papers. Where can I find the date of manufacture for this little gem.
Any help for this 83year old neighbor of mine would be appreciated.
Jeff

If I am thinking correctly you should see antlers followed by a number. For example this shows my PPK to have been manufactured in 1971

How do I post pictures, so they will go into this string? Still working so I don't get to look back in here as often as I would like.

First P38

Also a pic of my JP Sauer & Sohn 38H with the P38. Have since shot it both and I am really impressed with both.

Hello and welcome to the forum. The Q5 SF is an exceptionally nice pistol. Good choice.
