Post Well I saw Midway Today.

A long Film. almost 2 and 1/2 Hours. A lot was crammed into it. While everything was mostly CGI, It is a good film. I wonder if they used a different Plane, Update I was wrong! The Texan, A-6 for the Dauntless, because all the Dauntless had a 3 Blade Propeller instead of the 2 Bladed it was supposed to have. Update I found out they did have 3 Bladed Props. The biggest surprise, was Admiral Spruance was barely in the Movie. I did not like seeing how the Japs treated one of our Air Crews, they picked up. I want to see the one from 1976, when I can get it from Netflix. There may be other things missing from the Film. However I recommend it, They used some of the best CGI I have ever seen in Films, the Ticket counter Girl. gave everyone a Midway Pin with a Dauntless on it, did anyone else get one too? Paul

Well I saw Midway Today.

Good review. I will have to go see. FYI The SBD Dauntless had a three bladed propeller. And the turn on the lights story was in Ď44 at the Philippine Sea Iím pretty sure

I'm glad to hear that you liked it Paul. The review on Military Times wasn't so positive. I may have to check it out on DVD.

I knew the Film would have some Flaws before I watched it, as there is all types of stuff on the Internet about Midway. Paul

Unhappy

Update! I guess I had my Admirals and Fleets and Years mixed up. It was Admiral Mitchner in the Philippines Sea Battle in 1944 who gave that Order, to light up the Fleet. For the returning Pilots, not Admiral Spruance. Looks like the Dauntless Film got 2 Battles mixed into 1. Christ! I hate it when this happens, I was always good in History, You were right Pilkguns I really blew this one!. Paul

"Wasn't so positive" is an understatement:

Roger this. We went to see it on opening night. Great movie. CGI today is really impressive the way it brought the US and Japanese battleships and carriers back to life.

And I have the Pins!

I’ll most likely go see it or just wait till it’s on Amazon. I really liked the earlier version except for the incredibly bad acting by Charlton Heston. That whole subplot with his son and Japanese girlfriend could have been removed and the movie would have been better (and shorter) .

Nothing replaces the original IMO, but the new Midway on the big screen, well there were dog fight scenes that made me grip the arms of my seat. I dont know if id get the same effect on the home theater.
