Can anyone give me any info on this gun? I know it's from the 80s at the very least but I don't want to take it to a gun shop since I feel that they'll tell me it's only worth a $100 and try to buy it.
The serial is 017742
A reputable shop should offer you $2-250 and would try to sell it for $500. A few years ago they were all over the place for $2-300 retail. Unless you need the money you would be better served keeping it.
The frame is much older than the slide and likely the barrel, at least by the serial it dates back to the late 1950s.
There is a St. Wendel rework stamp from 11/80 on the frame next to the serial, which is likely when the new 5/80-dated slide (and probably barrel) was added. That’s also when it got the Bw stamp, on the trigger guard since the usual spot was filled. The frame has not been reinforced with the post-1975 hex bolt.
Mismatched parts on these do not substantially reduce the value; the majority of Bundeswehr P1’s had components replaced while being re-worked during their service life. I’ve seen a gun with three re-work dates.
Ah okay, thanks for the info! I am not planning on selling it, I just didn't want to go into a gun shop and have to deal with all of that.
