Recently picked up this ppk and I'm having trouble identifying it, all the markings like antlers and the date stamp are not there and neither is the "made in germany" on the left side. It has the post war eagle over "N" and both magazines are mec-gar marked. Any information or help identifying it would be greatly appreciated!
I tried adding images but keep getting "upload failed" the serial number is 1384xx its high polish blued finished and the left side of the slide reads "Carl Walther Waffenfabrik ulm/do. ; modell ppk cal.7,65 mm" it has moderate holster wear and looks to have been dropped on the lanyard loop, I paid $425 for it. From the previously sold ones on gb I think I did just okay.
The flat bottom mag is a mec-gar and the one in the pistol might be as well. Still, at $425 you got a very fine pistol. In Northern Va, that pistol would go for $1,500 (maybe more) at one of the big gun shows. Mint with all the box kit, perhaps as much $2,300.
In my experience (limited to local gun shows and local gun stores), post-war Ulm .32 PPK pistols without Interarms Import roll marks are very much harder to find than pre-war & wartime .32 PPK "ZM" pistols.
If that's bluing loss on the muzzle end of the slide, your pistol is a "shooter" vice "collector" grade pistol and worth less. However, for the reasons stated above, your pistol could still fetch $1,300 in this area (Northern VA) even with the bluing loss. (If there is any rust speckling, then less.) My guess is that the Walther guys I know at the local gun shows, would put at least a $1,300 tag on it and then hold out at that price over several gun shows until a PPK addict shows up and wants it no matter what.
I think your pistol's serial number dates it to 1958-1961. This is on a PPK serial number chart found on the internet and here. Other forum members are more expert in this area and can confirm or deny.
