P38 help

I picked this up at my local gun shop for what I considered short money. I know it is a 1940 Walther made with 2 matching magazines that must have been presentation piece for a Wehrmacht Captain named Franz Diekman. I, however have never seen a box like this or the manual. Is the box and manual period for the gun? Also, anyone know what the markings below Diekmanís name are?

That's dates with the Roman numerals representing the month and the Arab numbers the date of the month. Might have to cross check what happened between May and September of 1940...

Last time this gun was seen it had a different box:

Upon further research, it appears there are several exemplars of P.38s having received this "enhancement".

Thank you for the help! Too bad it's refinished, glad I didn't pay too much for it.
