Tracking CCP Issues (or lack of) By Serial Number

After reading posts about several issues and seeing mention of 3xxx, 6xxx and 8xxx serial numbers (in just a couple of months) I'd like to track FTE, FTF, no slide lock back, no trigger reset, sticky and gritty trigger, magazine problems, etcetera by S/N, purchase date and barrel finishes. We might be able to track design changes, component changes, and workmanship issues.

Just post the first 2 digits of your S/N.

My S/N is 87xx and I have a bright stainless barrel. Purchased on 2/27/15.

I have had no feed or ammo issues, no slide lock back issues, just a somewhat gritty, sticky trigger that I worked and fixed myself. 100% reliable. Goes bang every time.

I don't know who or how this will be compiled, but here ya go.
S/N: 36xx
Purchased: 12/17/14

Striker spring failure @ 100rds.
Handful of FTE, FTFe, stovepipes thru ~250rds. (I still blame much of those on cheap ammo)
No function probs since.
Counterplate rollpins re-centered and re-locktighted @ 950rds.🔫

I am not even sure the effort will be worth your time. I would imagine that Walther's is tracking very closely what is going in and out of the repair facility. I would think they would be watching with keen interest what is being done and what they are hearing through their customer service in terms of complaints and real issues. At any rate, In consideration of the size of the data pool the company can is plugged into, by virtue of them being the manufacturer on a global scale, their tracking would be far more accurate than the little microcosm of data one can collect through this site.

Thanks for posting your info John C.

Maccountrypilot: This isn't for Walther, although they may look in here and take note of customer comments, both good and bad. When serial number ranges change quickly (I doubt they have shipped 5,000 guns already) it is often done to track design or part revisions. Walther knows what changes or mistakes they have made on the production line but we don't. They haven't recalled any CCPs so far, so this is a way to track what issues that different serial number ranges have. If we have enough CCP owners post their info we may see some trends. Maybe this will show nothing and the issues are just random, but we need data to determine that.

I suggest the info gathered in this thread, assuming we have more than a few participants, be combined with our Problems thread started by 1911....that is our tracking for problems encountered.

My info is:

Serial #39xx
Purchased 12/18/15

5 FTFi in first 60 rounds - Striker Spring replaced by Walther
Locking Catch roll pin failure - replaced by Walther

Walther CS rep Dillon checked with gunsmith and advises no significance to serial numbering.

Dillon also reiterated that the lifetime warranty is for ALL guns and older firearms will be evaluated on a case by case basis because parts could be an issue.

Having 30+ years experience in manufacturing of consumer retail and and aerospace components I can tell you with confidence that the CS rep only says what he is told to say, and that would be the information that the company wants released to the public. I don't want to be accusing or start any conspiracy theories, but he is there to protect the company and to satisfy customers that are having problems, and has been doing a good job.

Many companies allow their customers to be the guinea pig and debug the product from the field. I'm sure that pre-production CCP samples given to the press were careful assembled with high quality, well manufactured parts and were tested with care to insure good write ups. I have read at least 5 reviews in magazines that were all glowing. Smooth triggers and no miss-feeds or any other issues at all. Unfortunately someone's life can and will depend on a product that may or may not function in the field on a case by case basis. Our guns are obviously not the same as those review guns. This happened with Remington's R51 pistol and they had to recall all guns that were shipped and rework them.

My CCP works perfectly and I have no complaints at all, so this isn't just for me. I have a 87xx serial number and would trust it with my life. Are all 8xxx guns 100% reliable? Are all 3xxx and 6xxx unreliable? Can I recommend this gun to a friend and tell him to look for a 8xxx serial number? We need info to find trends, and it's our job to keep the manufacturers doing their job. After all, we are spending our hard earned money.

Thanks for posting your info Chandler. We'll see if we get more from other forum users.

I posted essentially the same comments about a month ago so you are preaching to the choir. However, I wanted to get input from Walther re serial numbers and their use and report that to the forum....whether 100% accurate or not. It's on the record as well as the CS responding to that question.

You are welcome for the info.
