Default Recall Notification: Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols

Smith & Wesson has identified a condition that may exist in certain PPK and PPK/S pistols which may permit a round to be discharged without the trigger being pulled. When the manual safety is disengaged, Smith & Wesson’s Product Engineering Group has determined that the possibility exists in certain firearms that lowering the hammer may cause a chambered round to fire.

That's also going to affect a lot of gun owners who frequent this forum, myself included. Thanks for the heads-up, tba02. I may have to break out the PPS to use as a carry gun in the meantime.

Through no fault of Carl Walther Sportwaffen GmbH, the continuing problems at Smith & Wesson will only further damage the reputation of the Walther brand.

The business relationship is becoming strained and imports of German-made Walthers have slowed to a trickle.

IMO, S&W has intentionaly slowed imports so as to sell more S&W manufactured handguns and Walther GmbH is reluctent to import weapons through a company with so may problems.

It is time for Walther Sportwaffen GmbH to find a new American importer.

Holy crap, are you kidding me? My PPK/S has to make a third trip back to the factory? They are recalling all PPK and PPK/S pistols that they made since 2002. How can this possibly happen? S&W is such a reputable company, and yet they couldn't possibly have screwed up the Walther PPK license any more than they have. It is unbelievable. This is going to cost them a lot of money. Serious damage is being done to the Walther brand's reputation and it looks like it is SW's fault.

Congrats for doing the recall (although they would pretty much be forced to for liability reasons) but this gun has been around for decades! Why is the SW version so bad?

Mine falls in this group. Shame. I will have to pick a different daily carry. Has been a good piece so far. Must not be a huge defect if it took this many years to see. With any firearm, small defect can cause an enormous problem.

Wonder if any of this would relate to the "hammer bounce" problem many (including myself) have experienced?

By the looks of the recall list it is every single PPK and PPK/S they have sold for the past 7 years. That is a ton of guns! I'd say if you get yours back in three months that would be fast turnaround for a recall of this size.

The expense of all this has to be astronomical!
