It's a New Model .44 Army, with a patent stamp of 1858, made at the Remington plant in Ilion, New York. (It still amazes me that a state that helped produced America's firearms heritage has become so rabidly anti-gun.) My father bought the gun for $15 in the late 1940s, and it came to me when he passed. My mother told me that she was angry with him at the time because they didn't have an extra $15 to spend on something as frivolous as an old army pistol.
I see alot of handguns on the "boards" but your Remington is pretty impressive!

Looks just like the one Scarlett O'Hara uses to good effect in "Gone with the Wind"....I got to handle one when I was a young teen, those old army revolvers are just plain "neat". Sadly haven't seen many real ones since.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Brad, for the kind words. Outside of some blue loss on the cylinder, it is in amazing condition and mechanically perfect -- not that I'd ever shoot this one. It does bring to mind a lot of movie scenes, particularly the Civil War epics. I am most fortunate to own it.

That's a beautiful Army Remington...

I've been thinking of buying a replica. I'd get an original but I'd have to sell my house...

I have to know, do you shoot the "my friend" pepperbox/knuckleduster?

Milspec: The Remington originals are quite pricy these days, although I'll bet you could get by if you sold your swimming pool.

BFD: The "My Friend" is a safe queen, though I have no doubt that it would perform well. It's also in exceptional shape mechanically. Can't think of a good reason to shoot it, however.

Well, that would do it, all right. I've always wondered why someone has never produced a workable reproduction of the kunckleduster ... other than state and federal laws, of course. This is one of several versions of the knuckleduster; a couple of them had a barrel, IIRC, and it also came in a larger caliber (.32, I think, though I'd have to look it up). One of the versions that Reid made had a knife sticking out the end.

Default Mini Uzi

While Uzi Gal was visiting the Rock Island Arsenal Museum back in 1992, we stopped in the gift shop where he autographed a toy Uzi SMG for my son. We keep it in the big safe...with our most valuable guns...
