Default Reproduction WWII Red-Brown Grips

Reproduction WWII Red-Brown Grips

Who currently makes the best reproduction grips for the P.38? Personal experience please. Appearence, fit, texture, durability--who makes the best ones?

You can try this web site....
http://www.carlwalther.com/pp.htm

It's Earl's repair. I have bought a number of items from him and suppossedly he deals directly with Walther for all new or used replacement parts for anything Walther in the U.S Hope this helps.

You can find original grips for the P.38s on a number of sites; CDNN is selling originals for less than $13 right now, for example; they are black and used. I can't remember seeing a reproduction grip produced for the P.38 that is a reddish brown. You almost always have to buy originals, and they generally are pricey. Check Randall Bessler's Collector Firearms site (main page, left-hand side, under Walther at the bottom) to get an idea of what he might have in stock, and the prices attached to them.

My research has led me to conclude that the Vit Zimanek are about the best of the lot for looks, fit and function.

The stock post war black plastic P.38-P.1-P.4 grips are functional and fit well, but give up a bit of panache.

I also ordered up some Altamont grooved walnut grips in the Heerspistole style that fit very well, but I have not had them to the range yet.

So, bottom line, if you want the look of the WWII red brown plastic grips, go with Vit Zimanek.
