We are on the same page, KK, though we are marching to a different drummer in today's world, I'm afraid. Walther/Umarex's best-selling pistol is, and has been for some time, the P22.

Re: Proof Marks

There has been some discussion and confusion about Proof Marks on this thread. I hope the following link helps.

I was under the impression that the eagle over N simply means it has been tested with smokeless powder.

hell, my steyr S9 has the eagle over N and it was made in AUSTRIA.

I think those posters need to re-evaluate.
Essentially correct. Eagle over N is the definitive NITRO proof for all guns. There is a separate proof mark for its inspection location. My P22 has the Cologne proof mark (3 crowns on a shield) in addition to the NITRO.

The acquisition of Carl Walther by the PW Group in 1993 was a brilliant strategic decision. It augmented the Umarex over-the-counter product range with world-famous firearms and sporting arms manufactured by Walther. In addition, PW Tobacco keeps the PW Group in tune with market trends. The members of the network thus have their finger on the pulse of the market and are able to strengthen their relationships with customers.

Umarex bought carl walther. they told you in the website info.

Yes it is, which is the reason why you no longer see the offending post (above). It just took me awhile to get to this point in the forum today.

Actually, it's not exactly illegal, but it is certainly frowned upon.

Just an invitation to go and sin no more and to never return to the WF under that guise. Nothing more ...

Just acquired my father's P22. He is splitting time out here now and left a few of his guns. My brother and I got it for him as a birthday gift back in 08. Finally looking at it closely, I noticed it has the stag and Ulm proof marking. It does not have any of the Cologne shield proof marks. All markings look like those on my P99 AS. I assume this designates manufacture at the Walther facility in Ulm rather than the Umarex facility in Cologne. Am I correct in this assumption (has all the eagle over N proofs for firing as well).

Correction: barrel has the shield proof. Slide has stag. Weird.

By definition a proof mark indicates the location of the proof house where the gun was examined and tested. It may or may not be the manufacturing facility. Some guns may have multiple proof marks if transferred to another country (as in war-time captures and modifications.) Also, to be clear, Umarex owns Walther. Both Ulm and Cologne facilities are Umarex. Umarex uses the Walther name whenever they can because they own it and its brand is more synonymous with historical quality. Any facility that bore the Walther name before the acquisition continues to carry that name. It just makes good business sense.
