Anyone else have their firing pin fail on this model handgun? I've probably shot 5,000-6,000 rounds through it in the last year, with maybe half a dozen dry-fires.
The firing pin failed at an obvious stress-riser. When I called to replace it, the customer service agent quoted me the price of a new one off-the-top-of-his-head. I obviously wasn't the first with this issue.
Replacement part at $14 reasonably priced and great customer service.
Upon receiving the replacement part (same design), I radiused the sharp corner where the original had broken. I guess I'll wait-and-see if this was effective.
I just sent mine back to Walther after 100 rounds with a firing pin problem. Their customer service has been great. I like the gun, but I'm worried about quality. We'll see how it performs after I get it back.
I went to the range today and when my colt 1911 22lr would not fire I noticed there was no firing pin sticking out for the hammer to strike. I am waiting for reply from walther?
Has anybody installed one? I see above they are available. Any instruction on how to replace would be great.
Thank you
customer service is sending a new firing pin today and a copy of drawing
Great customer service! If anyone has replaced the firing pin before and has any advice thank you in advance for some help.
I have at least 2000 - 3000 rounds though it. Mostly cci round nose 40 gr I love the gun I will get back on date of gun but I have had for maybe 3three years.
So far the sights have been the only issue I am hoping the firing pin is easy to replace.
FYI - my replacement firing pin from Walther did not have an sharp edges. It failed in the internal sharp corner of the design. This is a classic case of what's called a stress-riser. This, combined with repetitive impact loadings, can cause a fatigue failure - which is exactly what occurred with my firing pin.
The solution to this problem is to eliminate the internal sharp corner of the stamping design. What I did is radius this corner, being careful to not reduce the smaller cross-section of the firing pin. I just used a small round file, followed by polishing the radius to eliminate potential stress cracks from the filing.
Understanding what the failure cause was, and discovering the solution, gave me confidence that this won't occur again. So far, so good. I'm actually surprised Walther didn't anticipate this and incorporate it into the original design. Engineers learn early on to avoid internal sharp corners for this very reason.
Thank you for the above info. I understand exactly what you meant. 90 degree sharp corner instead of a polished radius that has no where for a crack to start. That is where mine broke too. Same with steps on a shaft. Years back we were shearing off approx. 8" dia. steel shafts due to a sharp 90 degree corner. A slight radius designed in as the shaft is machined, problem gone. If my eyes were a lil younger I would do what you did.
Well, the Great news is its Friday and I came home from work and there is my new firing pin. Had it apart, cleaned up and back together in a short time.
I made it to the range and put about 75 rounds through her.
I am so happy again.
Thank you so much to Walther for having be back running in a couple days. Totally impressed with them.
That will make me buy another gun from them anytime! Great company!
Nice Folks
where were you able to get the replacement firing pin?
