Stranger things have happened. It also might have been a bad factory stamp?

LP58
I appreciate anyone's opinion but I don't believe the pistol is altered. I purchased it from the estate of a friend and longtime shooter who owned a wide variety of exceptional pistols including Smith 41's, Aces, Pardini's and the like. He was only interested in accuracy and value/rarity were of little or no concern. It was purchased within the last year for less than $150 so I have no suspicion of subterfuge.
If you Google LP58 there is second citation picturing another marked specimen although of somewhat lesser condition. It's SN is difficult to discern but it looks like it is within 60 of the one I posted. I can't seem to copy the link but if you Google "Airgun Forum Anybody heard Walther LP58" should bring up the site with a picture. I am not primarily a Walther air pistol collector but am interested in a wide range of firearms and am confident that this is not faked. Any additional information on this model would still be appreciated. |

Have actually seen another one of these LP58's a couple of years ago, and did some research at the time and turned up and saved this notation:
"Actually there is 2 specimen of Walther Lp 58 here in Sweden! Furthermore there is a Walter Lp58 airpistol listed in the Swedish Police Forensic Lab. list over permit free airguns on the Swedish market, this list was established 1972 and was valid until a change in law 1992. I do not have this two pistols, but I know both owners" I'll try and find the original source of that info, but sounds like it may have been a walther export contract? regards Vince |

I don't see it showing up in Manfred Kersten's "Walther: A German Legend," which has a nice spread on the air pistols.

The LP58 myth was cleared up on one of the Air gun Forums.... it is a LP53 with a bad stamp.. there was more than one.. but somebody took it under the microscope.....
and now some pictures of my LP53....

Wow. That is very nice, and in terrific shape to boot, with the goodies intact. Nice score by someone.
