Sportmodell IV???

Came across a heavy barreled Walther .22 rifle, prewar. Serial number range is 139,000. Seller says its a Sportmodell IV or 4. Never heard of one. Looks like a Sportmodell externally. Thanks. dj

Here's a catalog description and picture of a Walther Sportmodell IV. I have owned a few of these in the past, and still have a Meisterbuchse built on the Model IV action.

Is the rifle marked as a IV or what? Seems like a very high serial number for a Walther bolt action. Can you verify the serial as 139,000 and the markings in front of the breach. Is the safety a Mauser style wing or does it rotate?

Here are two model 4s sold on Julia this past month.

I asked the seller the same questions. Is it marked IV. What is the full serial number. Does it have a suffix letter and several other things. The four pics posted were not very good. The reply was "the top says Sportmodell" to all my questions. Best. dj

Here is one pic. The guts of the rear sight have been removed and a rear sight/system has been installed on the dovetail. Was trying to figure out what it was - correct or otherwise. Serial number is 13,9xx. One too many figures.

That certainly is a Sportmodell IV. Interesting diopter sight. I am not familiar with that sight, and would guess that it is a later addition. Thank you for posting the pic.

Here are a couple more pics. How did you know it was a Sportmodell IV? Are they rare or just uncommon? Thanks. dj

The diopter sight reminds me of one that might have been on a Sako. Thanks for showing us pictures of your Sportmodell IV.
